An extensive 60-day cruise circling the Land Down Under is being halted in the wake of the fatal incident of an senior lady who was left behind by the ship on a isolated island.

Suzanne Rees had been walking on the remote island with shipmates from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the party for a rest. The liner sailed away leaving her and went back several hours later after the crew realised the lady was not present.

A major search operation located her person the following day.

"Based on information from the investigators that it was a exceptionally warm period, and mother fell ill on the hill climb," she explained.

"They requested her to head down, without accompaniment. Then the ship departed, reportedly without performing a passenger count.

"During some point in that chain of events, or shortly after, she passed away, by herself."

Operator Position

In a statement, the Head verified that the operator was "collaborating extensively with officials to support their examination".

He stated that the organization was "extremely apologetic that this has happened" and had extended its full support to the loved ones.
