Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his team followed a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, if briefly, when he spun at the fourth corner soon after starting.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner leading to the final bend on to the pit straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in P19, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, over half a second off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
