Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, fiends, and dark forces expanding in influence within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of characters who will split off from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
According to the DM, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise started the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, striking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then paid off his debts and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, seeks revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could enable the team reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The target is wanted dead by the family.
This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
According to episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Questers and Strategists parties.
Fans can anticipate learning which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
